Common Toyota Repairs
Each Toyota has its own personality, strengths and weaknesses. Over the years we’ve become experts in identifying and making some of the most common Toyota Repairs including:
- Brake vibration from warped rotors
- Oil leaks from valve cover gaskets
- Oil leaks from rear axles seals
- Front axle boots torn
- Coolant leaks from water pumps
- Timing belt replacement
Toyota Repair Costs:
Repairs can be costly, especially if the issue requires us to work on the timing belt and clutch. Most noteworthy is that we help reduce repair costs by prioritizing important repairs that need immediate attention versus those that can wait. We source the best parts for your money and provide the best technicians to work on your vehicle. That’s what makes our prices very competitive. All of our technicians treat each vehicle as if it were there very own, and that’s what makes us stand out from the competition.

So with maintenance, you want to be extra sure your Toyota goes into a reputable, knowledgeable and reliable auto repair shop. Mac’s Radiator and Automotive Service is backed by many years of experience and has specialized expertise to answer the most frequently asked questions about your Toyota.
How often do I need to change my oil?
Every 3,000 miles for conventional or 5,000 miles for synthetic, keeping a close eye on oil level between changes.
Why does my Toyota shake or vibrate when I brake?
Modern day brake rotors tend to warp, sometimes even before the brake pads wear out. Depending on how bad they warp they may require replacing. It is advisable to replace the brake rotors and pads at the same time. If you experience any of these symptoms call us to schedule a brake inspection. We will inspect all your brakes and let you know what condition they’re in and if they need to be replaced, or if it can wait.
Why do I smell an odor from my engine when driving with the heater on?
Typically the fresh air intake vents for your cabin are located directly behind the hood covering in the engine compartment. When oil leaks in the engine compartment the odor is sucked into the vents and blown inside the passenger cabin. When you smell anything unusual inside your vehicle it generally means there is a leak somewhere. Leaking valve cover gaskets are common in Toyotas and can give off an oil burning smell inside your vehicle.
Why does my Toyota need the timing belt replaced?
Timing chains are made of steel and do not have specific replacement intervals. They are made from rubber, nylon, polyurethane, carbon and fiberglass and are meant to be replaced at specific time or mileage intervals. They used to be replaced at 60,000 miles, but with the advancement of timing belt materials some can last up to 120,000 miles now. When it breaks it can damage your engine. Replacing a Timing belt is a maintenance repair that should be planned for. It’s more cost effective to replace other engine components at the same time when replacing the timing belt. Instead of giving a cheaper over the phone quote in order to “get you in, we quote the entire job up front so you know what to expect. But we treat each case differently: you may not absolutely need some other parts depending on their wear and your budget.
Why does my truck “feel loose” in the mountains?
It’s quite common for steering rack bushings to wear.
